Who is Kilted Craftsman?
You can't call yourself the Kilted Craftsman if you've never worn a kilt. Meet Robert, the artisan behind the brand. Born in Alexandria, Scotland, Robert has proudly sported his family tartan throughout his life. He spent the first 14 years of his life in bonnie Scotland before his family immigrated to California.
Robert's passion for woodworking was kindled at a young age while working alongside his stepfather to build the perfect family home. This early exposure to the craft deepened during his high school woodshop classes, thanks to the guidance and encouragement of his teacher, Mr. Holmes. After high school, Robert joined the military as a Navy Seabee, where he proudly served his country and earned his citizenship.
Despite his military commitments, Robert continued woodworking as a hobby, creating furniture and cutting boards for family and friends. In 2017, after years of working as a heavy equipment operator, he decided to turn his passion into a profession. He started his own business, selling cutting boards and butcher blocks at local farmers markets, art shows, and craft events.
Today, Robert is married and a proud father to his son, wee Robert. His love for woodworking has evolved into a family business, Kilted Craftsman, which boasts many satisfied clients and unique pieces of custom furniture, countertops, cutting boards, and butcher blocks. Robert's journey from a young boy in Scotland to a master craftsman in California is a testament to his dedication, skill, and love for the craft.
